Parallax, perspective zoom, and why exact size matters

iOS treats a wallpaper as material to work with, not a picture to frame. If the image doesn't match the screen's pixel dimensions, the system scales and crops it to fill — and even a perfectly sized image gets enlarged a few percent when perspective zoom is on, so the wallpaper can drift against the icons as the phone tilts. That parallax motion is the usual culprit when a carefully composed wallpaper loses its edges.

The fix is two-fold: start from an image at your model's exact native pixels — the second column above — and turn off perspective zoom while setting the wallpaper if you want the edges pinned. Zoomed or not, an exact-size image always survives better than an oversized one, because every crop iOS makes is a crop you didn't choose.

How this chart is made

This chart is not typed by hand. It is generated from the same in-code device table that drives the wallpaper maker's device picker, by a build tool that renders the rows, the readout, and every pixel value in the copy from that single source — so the chart you read and the size the maker exports cannot disagree. When the table changes, the page is regenerated; a stale chart fails the site's build rather than shipping.

The table itself is compiled by hand and verified deliberately: every entry was cross-checked against two independent published sources — the manufacturer's specification pages and an independent specification database — and each row prints the day its own check was done, because the rows were not all checked together and a single date across all of them would be a claim about rows it isn't true of. A row's date changes only when that row is re-checked. Values arrive as code commits, never from a live feed, which is slower but means a wrong number can be traced to a reviewable change.

The honest limits: this chart covers the iPhone 14 generation onward — older models are served by the maker's custom size option rather than by rows nobody verified. Release dates are the models' original announcement months, not regional availability. And a size chart can only govern the file you make; once a wallpaper is on the phone, display settings like perspective zoom decide how it moves, which is why the explainer above exists.

What size should an iPhone wallpaper be?
Your model's native panel pixels, in portrait — that is the number in the second column. An iPhone 17 Pro Max is 1320×2868; an iPhone 14 is 1170×2532. A wallpaper at exactly those dimensions gives iOS no reason to rescale it. Every row's preset link opens the maker already set to that model, so you don't have to type the numbers anywhere.
What is the difference between pixels and points?
Pixels are the physical dots in the panel; points are the logical units iOS lays interfaces out in. Every iPhone in this chart uses a 3x display scale, so native pixels are exactly three times the point dimensions — iPhone 17 Pro Max is 440×956 points and 1320×2868 pixels. Wallpapers are images, not interfaces, so the pixel column is the one to export at; the points column exists because developer documentation and screenshots are usually quoted in points.
Why does iOS zoom or crop my wallpaper?
Two reasons, both settings rather than defects. Perspective zoom scales the image up slightly so it can shift as you tilt the phone — the parallax effect — which crops the edges; you can turn it off when setting the wallpaper. And any image that doesn't match the screen's aspect ratio gets cropped or scaled to fill it. Exporting at exact native pixels and switching perspective zoom off is the combination that keeps every edge where you put it.
